Keeping It Real A Community Based Program
Founded
January 2010

Keeping It Real deals with everyday issues that trouble our communities and lead to our youth and young adults entering the criminal justice system. Our goal is to attempt to stop or at least curtail this terrible cycle by creating an atmosphere, which leads to understanding and respect between the police and the community.

The Program last approximately 2 hours.  It starts with an introduction and layout of the agenda, followed by reverse role-playing.  The community youth play the role of police officers and the police officers play the role of the area youth. Some of the scenarios enacted are Traffic Stops, Domestic Violence, Police Profiling, Stop and Frisk etc.. This unique interaction allows the community and local Police to discuss the pros and cons of how the situation was handled and consider alternative ways to deal with them.
